Biography

Jacques S. Darche is a partner at the law firm Borden Ladner Gervais LLP in Montreal. Jacques was called to the Quebec Bar in 1992 and is a graduate of the Faculty of Law at the University of Montreal. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Political Science from Bishop’s University. In addition, he has completed the course in international commercial arbitration offered by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).

Jacques advises parties involved in domestic and international commercial arbitrations and also represents parties in the enforcement, recognition or challenge of arbitral awards. He regularly acts as an arbitrator and mediator in commercial disputes. Furthermore, he has a well-established practice in commercial litigation, franchise law, property litigation and expropriation, international fraud, probate litigation, shareholder disputes, insolvency and financial restructuring.

A versatile lawyer who strives to achieve the best possible outcomes for the clients he represents, Jacques is regularly sought out by a wide range of clients facing complex issues. He has in-depth knowledge and experience of the workings of Quebec’s civil courts, as well as the rules of various international commercial arbitration institutions. He is a member of the CIArb Presidential Panel of Arbitrators and the International Panel of Arbitrators of the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR).

He is a Chartered Arbitrator and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), a Certified Arbitrator of the Institut de médiation et d’arbitrage du Québec (IMAQ) and the Barreau du Québec, a member of the ICC Canada Arbitration Committee, He is a member of the ICC Canada Arbitration Committee, the ICC Institute of International Business Law and the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), a tutor and examiner for the CIArb Accredited Faculty in International Commercial Arbitration, and Chair of the CIArb Quebec Chapter. He is also Honorary Consul of Finland for Montreal and the Montreal metropolitan area.
